How long will it take to get an appointment?
The demand for the chronic cough service is increasing and we recieve several new referrals on a daily basis.
Our current waiting time is 6 months. Once you have been allocated an appointment you will receive a letter from the hospital with your appointment date and time.
What are the waiting times in clinic like?
The clinics are often busy andwaiting times are approximately 20 minutes.
The doctors do their utmost to see patients as close to their allocated appointment time as possible, however, they also aim to ensure that every patient receives a thorough consultation.
What sort of questions will you ask me?
During your consultation I will ask you questions to help me understand more about how your cough started, what previous investigations you have had and whether anything helps to relieve your cough. It is helpful for me if you write down any current medications and the dose that you are taking.
Why is taking part in research important?
Research has given us a better understanding of cough
and is the only dependable way to build on what we know about the symptom already and improve the treatments we can provide to you in the future.
Do all studies involve taking medicines?
No. We carry out a range of different types of research from simple questionnaire studies to complex drug trials. All research undergoes the same rigorous review by a Research Ethics Committee no matter how straightforward or complex it might be.
